Hierarchical prediction errors during sensory learning (Iglesias et al. 2013, Neuron)

Prediction errors are crucial teaching signals for learning. Here, we show that different prediction errors map onto distinct neurotransmitter systems: the dopaminergic midbrain signals prediction errors about visual stimulus outcomes, while the cholinergic basal forebrain encodes prediction errors about stimulus probabilities. <link http: www.cell.com neuron abstract external-link-new-window external link in new>Abstract | <link http: www.youtube.com external-link-new-window external link in new>Video | <link https: www.ethz.ch de news-und-veranstaltungen eth-news news irrtum-im-gehirn-beobachtet.html external-link-new-window external link in new>ETH News
